On Wednesday morning, Biden threw down the gauntlet.
Speaking directly to the camera, President Biden said:
“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again,” Biden said.
“Well, make my day, pal, I’ll even do it twice. So let’s pick the dates, Donald – I hear you’re free on Wednesdays,” Biden added, alluding to Trump’s court schedule.
But Biden announced there are some new rules and guardrails, including a mic cut off if they try and talk over their opponent. Remember Trump continually talking over Biden in their 2020 debates?
‘President Biden made his terms clear for two one-on-one debates, and Donald Trump accepted those terms. No more games. No more chaos, no more debate about debates. We’ll see Donald Trump on June 27th in Atlanta – if he shows up,’ Jen O’Malley Dillon from the Biden administration said in a statement.
Biden suggested their first presidential debate be in late June and the second in September before early voting begins.
