Remember the homeless man who gave up his lat $20 to help a stranded motorist when she ran when she ran out of gas in Philadelphia one night last October? So many of us were touched by his generosity, especially considering he had so little so we happily contributed to the Go Fund Me created by the woman Kate McClure and her boyfriend Mark D’Amico for the so-called homeless man Johnny Bobbitt.

But now, it has been revealed that McClure, D’Amico and Bobbitt set this all up to scam good-hearted people. All will face charges including conspiracy and theft by deception.

McClure, D’Amico and Bobbitt (pictured over Christmas last year) allegedly provided a false story in order to raise money for themselves.

The plan unraveled when Bobbitt sued the couple after claiming they were spending the money on themselves (evidence: a trip to Hawaii and a new BMW.) In turn, the couple claimed they were wary of giving Bobbitt any money since he ‘would spend it on drugs.’

McClure and D’Amico turned themselves in to Burlington County prosecutors on Wednesday, the source said, but it wasn’t clear if Bobbitt had turned himself in as well.

The worst impact of this is that it’s going to make people think twice about donating to genuinely worthy people and causes. We reached out to Go Fund Me to see if some of the money will be refunded to those who gave.
