Nothing is more representative of France than the tasty baguette. In fact, Le Pain Baguette was given Unesco heritage status in 2022.
Now, there’s a scratch-and-sniff postage stamp to honor the artisan baguette. Only 600,000 of these ‘bakery-scented’ stamps have gone on sale.
According to the Parisian stationery shop Le Carré d’encre, the stamp has a “bakery scent” captured in microcapsules that release the fragrance once scratched. The making of the stamps is a delicate process, as someone described it: “And the difficulty for us is to apply this ink without breaking the capsules so that the smell can then be released by the customer rubbing on the stamp.”
The stamps were released for sale on Friday, after a launch on Thursday, the day of Saint-Honoré, the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs.
