When eight-year-old Bryson Kliemann discovered his four-month-old pup, Bruce, needed expensive vet treatment for Parvo, he decided to sell his Pokémon card collection.

“Bruce got sick and needed my help,” Bryson said. “I was super sad. I didn’t want to lose my best friend,’ he explained.

So he set up a stand on his front lawn, with a big sign.

When his Mom decided to help by posting on her Facebook page, she never expected the reaction, and encouraged by it, she started a GoFundMe to raise just enough money to cover the cost of the treatment. “I didn’t want him to have to sell his cards,” Kimberly Woodruff said.
Flocks of people started showing up at his stand but not to buy his cards but to donate.
It also caught the attention of an employee at the Pokémon Co. in Seattle, who sent him a package filled with rare cards.
When it arrived, “I couldn’t believe it,” Bryson said. “I was so, so, so, so excited.”

In only a  few days, the family raised much more than what was needed to cover the cost of Bruce’s treatment, so they decided to use the additional funds to support other sick pets in Southwest Virginia.

Bryson’s Mom contacted the vet’s office where Bruce was treated, and “I told them if anyone comes in and they need any help paying, please let me know,” she said, adding that she also donated to a local animal shelter.

As for puppy Bruce, he’s fully recovered and back home with his family.

If you want to donate to help other pets the GoFundMe  is still open.
