Actor/singer/dancer Tim Curry, famous for his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ has died at 80.
Speaking about his celebrated role as the ‘sweet transvestite,’ Curry remarked:
“It’s given a lot of people permission to be themselves. ‘To not dream it, be it,’ which is the motto of the movie, really. I would like to be remembered for that. But it’s good advice.”
As a working actor — Curry was always quick to say he wasn’t a ‘movie star ‘ — he was also a hit in musicals, portraying Rooster opposite Carol Burnett’s Miss Hannigan in 1982’s “Annie,” and earning a Tony Award nomination for best leading actor for Monty Python’s deeply silly Broadway adaptation of “Spamalot,” in which he played King Arthur.
In later years, he starred as the terrifying Pennywise clown in Stephen King’s “It.”
What many people didn’t know about the versatile actor was that Curry was a passionate musician who released three albums in the late 1970s and early ’80s, featuring a variety of original rock songs as well as covers.
