When Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock was growing up, there weren’t any Barbies that looked like her.

Now the space scientist, who is well known for her  BBC One’s ‘The Sky at Night’ and ‘CBeebies Stargazing’ has a Mattel Barbie in her image. She was also named by the toy company as ‘Barbie role model’ for her work promoting science careers to young women.

“I hope my doll will remind girls that when you reach for the stars, anything is possible,” she said.

“It’s such an honor to receive this doll that is celebrating my achievements” the esteemed doctor exclaimed.

In a statement, Mattel acknowledged, “We know that globally STEM is a field widely recognized as under-representing women, so as a brand, Barbie is committed to showing girls more STEM careers.’
