Unlike a year ago, children are now catching Covid due to the highly contagious Delta Variant and now account for 22% of new U.S. cases.
In May, the FDA opened up vaccinations to those over the age of 12, but many of the new outbreaks are in children under that age.
Today Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said the ‘odds are high’ the FDA will approve vaccines in children under 12 during the next school year.
But since it’s doubtful that will happen before the start of the school year, the CDC has recommended that teachers, staff, and children should remain masked.
