Just when we were nodding off watching the Emmys, suddenly we were witness to a marriage proposal! Here’s how it went down. Director Glenn Weiss had just won for directing a Variety Special for last year’s Oscars and was dedicating the Emmy to his mother, who had just died:
“Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend Jan,” he shared. “Jan, you are the sunshine in my life. And mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”
Yep. His girlfriend, now fiancee, Jan Svendsen, started crying (along with the rest of us) before the crowd urged her to go on stage where Glenn kneeled and put his mother’s old ring on her finger. A perfect TV moment.
