At 10 am this morning, a helicopter carrying former Laker’s basketball player Kobe Bryant, along with his 13-year-old daughter, crashed into a hillside in Calabasas, California killing them instantly. Along with the former Laker were seven other friends; John Altobelli, a baseball coach at Orange County College, his wife Keri and daughter Alyssa. Girls basketball coach Christina Mauser was also killed in the crash.

Reportedly, the dense fog is said to have played a role in the devastating crash. Even LAPD had grounded their air fleet over weather concerns.

It took rescuers considerable time to get to the site of the crash due to the rough terrain; some medical crew rappelled to the site from a helicopter and firefighters had to hike in.

As shocked fans reacted around the world, a quiet crowd of mourners gathered outside the Lakers home town Staples Center.
