Breaking News:

President Biden banned the importation of Russian oil and natural gas into the United States, which will have dire repercussions in Russia and raise the price of gas for Americans.

“I said I would level with the American people from the beginning,” Mr. Biden said. “And when I first spoke to this, I said defending freedom is going to cost. It’s going to cost us as well, in the United States.”

Biden also praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people, adding:

Biden also commended the Ukrainian people for their resistance in the face of war.

“They’ve inspired the world with their bravery, their patriotism, their defiant determination to live free. Putin’s war — Putin’s war — has caused an enormous suffering and needless loss of life of women, children, everyone in Ukraine — both Ukraine and, I might add, Russians.”

After bombing humanitarian corridors, or routing them into Russia, at last, one humanitarian corridor lasted long enough to allow hundreds of civilians to escape from Sumy, which is under constant Russian bombardment. A Russian airstrike last night hit an apartment building in Sumy, killing at least 21 people — including two children. Thousands fled in Red Cross buses today.

Tuesday, President Zelensky spoke via video to an overflow meeting of Britain’s Parliament, comparing his country’s fight to that of Britain in World War II. “We do not want to lose what we have, what is ours, just in the same way as you didn’t want to lose your country,” he said.

On Tuesday,  the UN announced that now more than 2 million Ukrainians have fled since Russia invaded on Feb. 24, creating what officials fear could be Europe’s gravest humanitarian crisis since World War II. Meanwhile, Poland is pushing to open more refugee shelters.

Despite Putin’s claim that the Russians weren’t bombing civilian targets, the city of Kharkiv has been one of the most bombed areas in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion, with the mayor, Terekhov, calling the shelling of civilian districts an act of “genocide.”

“What else can it be? There is no military infrastructure, no military facilities in these areas. Strikes are happening in kindergartens, schools, maternity hospitals, clinics, ” Terekhov said.

“This isn’t an accident. I can understand when there’s an accidental strike. But when it’s hundreds of civilian buildings hit, that is no accident. That is a targeted attack.”
