Authorities in Japan have rescued the same climber from the slopes of Mount Fuji TWICE in the same week.
This week, a Chinese college student currently living in Japan reached the summit (12,388 feet) before experiencing altitude sickness. After being rescued, he was warned that he shouldn’t have been on the mountain to being with since the official climbing season runs from July 10 to September 10.
According to the official Mount Fuji website, all trails to the summit are closed, and most of the trail signs have been removed. All huts, toilets, and first aid stations are also shut for the off-season.
Due to massive overcrowding, officials had instituted new rules, including needing a permit to climb ($28), and a reservation to limit the crowds on the mountain (only 4,000 visitors per day).
So why did the student have to be rescued again from the mountain?
He went back to find his cell phone.
