In the horrifying video, the Chinese Boeing 737-800 suddenly loses altitude and nose-dives, plummeting 30,000ft in two minutes before slamming into the ground at 350mph. There were no survivors. The ensuing fire likely incinerated the plane.
For relatives and friends on board, chances are that the G forces mercifully knocked the passengers unconscious almost immediately. They wouldn’t be aware they were hurtling to their deaths.
Speculating that the pilots were knocked out by the G-force as well, experts say the short attempt to right the plane probably occurred because one of the pilots regained consciousness but it would have been too late.
Since the crash, China has grounded all its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
