America’s Surgeon General is calling for cancer risk warnings on alcohol — just like there is on cigarettes — after studies link alcoholic beverages to more than a half-dozen malignancies.
Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy released a new Surgeon General’s Advisory on Alcohol and Cancer Risk on Friday outlining the direct link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol consumption is the third-leading preventable cause of cancer in the United States, after tobacco and obesity.
The report goes on to say that alcohol increases the risk for at least seven types of cancer.
