Just days after Trump’s dismal military parade, an eight-foot-tall sculpture, titled “Dictator Approved,” showing a golden hand — giving a thumbs up — crushing the top of the Statue of Liberty, suddenly appeared at the National Mall in Washington.
Her crown is cracked, and one of the seven spikes has fallen off.
On the pedestal itself, there are gold plaques featuring quotes from several world leaders, most considered dictators, such as the one from Russian President Putin: “President Trump is a very bright and talented man.”
According to the permit, the artwork has permission to be on the National Mall though June 22.
Many passerby had the same reaction: “It’s just a sign of today’s political climate. It’s crushing liberty, that’s what it says to me.”
The artist is unknown.
