California Governor Gavin Newsom has sharply criticized former President Donald Trump over the ongoing government shutdown after the Federal Aviation Administration warned that major airports could soon be left without air traffic controllers. In a statement late Monday, Newsom accused Trump of “recklessly endangering Americans’ safety and livelihoods” by allowing the shutdown to continue, calling it “a tantrum that’s putting lives at risk.”

“Thanks, @realDonaldTrump! Burbank Airport has ZERO air traffic controllers from 4:15pm to 10pm today because of YOUR government shutdown,” the Governor of California wrote on X/Twitter.

The FAA said that without funding restored, staffing shortages could force closures or severe delays at airports across the country, including in California’s busiest hubs in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Newsom urged Congress to act immediately but placed the blame squarely on Trump, saying the crisis “is what happens when chaos replaces leadership.” The White House has not responded to his comments.
