Trump’s State of the Union was not so much a traditional temperature-taking of the Nation as a campaign rally for his reelection. In the 77 minutes long address, Trump boasted of ‘his’ achievements and basically touted  “The Great American Comeback,”

“In just three short years, we have shattered the mentality of American decline, and we have rejected the downsizing of America’s destiny,” Trump said. “We are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable just a short time ago, and we are never going back.”

Playing to his base, the President didn’t even mention the impeachment trial and instead focused on the economy — and taking digs at Democratic rival Senator Bernie Sanders, who he is obviously worried about as a contender.

The Washington Post this morning fact-checked Trump’s SOTU speech and — surprise, surprise — found that the President has played fast and loose with facts and numbers, counting 31 false claims in all.

31.
