What if we told you that you could have that Italian expresso you’ve been dreaming about, a fresh-baked baguette and some heavenly Manchego… without packing your passport?

At the newly-opened  Haute Mess Gourmet Market, Bakery, Patisserie & Café in the Fairfax district,  you can enjoy all the European delights, from artisanal sandwiches which remind you of that little delicatessen at the foot of the Spanish steps, a strong expresso from Rome, and a light-as-air Chocolate Mousse, seemingly straight from a Parisian bakery.

While you’re there you can pick up dinner, maybe some cheese or freshly made pasta and a hearty red sauce. Don’t forget the wine…there’s a vast variety at very sensible prices. The staff is friendly, very knowledgeable and happy to help you make your pick.

No feast would be complete without dessert. We tried the cheesecake (divine) and the Chocolate Mousse (perfect), all of which are made in-house.

Delectable desserts.

The owner, Michael Simhai owns the popular Della Terra restaurant next door so knows a thing or two about how to run a cafe.

Bon appetit!
