Last year, we gleefully spent most of May at the LA Food Bowl, trying new, exciting food, hearing inspiring chef’s talks, enjoying long-table feasts, munching on lots of food in a bowl, and staying up late at the L.A. Times Food Bowl Night Market (this year it runs May 8-12) with its pop-up restaurants and events. And did we mention we basically ate our way through the month?

Mark your calendars since LA Food Bowl will run from May 1-31st, with the citywide food festival featuring hundreds of events with local favorites and famous international chefs. It’s like ‘eating the world while in one place’ to quote one of the L.A.Times food writers.

The expanded Times Food staff, led by Editor Peter Meehan, will honor the legacy of critic Jonathan Gold through the continuation of the Gold Award (previous winners as selected by Gold include Wolfgang Puck, Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken) to be announced alongside the Restaurant of the Year on May 1 at the opening event.

The festival will also highlight and help tackle the issues of food access, sustainability and waste reduction. The full line-up of dining events, panel discussions, culinary collaborations, volunteer projects and other food-inspired happenings will be announced April 1 at lafoodbowl.com.
