You’ve undoubtedly seen the videos of terrified passengers lined up on the wing of the plane as smoke poured from the engine.
Originally, the plane returned to the gate when the pilot heard ‘strange vibrations’ coming from the engine. The pilot told air traffic control it wasn’t an emergency.
Two seconds later, it escalated with the call “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday! Mayday! … engine fire!”
Experts say the evacuation slides were taking too long to deploy, so passengers were set out on the wing while ground safety personnel rushed to get ladders.
Twelve passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
