For the first time since the pandemic began — officially declared in March of last year — the US recorded less than 6,000 new COVID cases. And former hotspots — L.A. and NY city — recorded positivity rates as low as  0.3%

With half of Americans vaccinated with at least one dose, the country got back to traveling this Memorial Day weekend. The TSA reported the highest number of travelers since the pandemic began with more than 1.9 million people flying.

Although masks are mandated on airplanes, cities all across the US are lifting restrictions on gatherings and indoor dining.

But White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci has repeatedly said that he wants to see daily case numbers drop below 10,000 before there is a ‘broad relaxation of safety measures takes place.’
