The tourists-behaving-badly season started early in Rome this year, with three visitors from New Zealand trying to take a swim in the famous Trevi Fountain.
After they tried to wade into the fountain, police corralled them, but one tourist broke free and jumped into the fountain as they gave chase.
“Alcohol was definitely involved,” the spokesperson added.
He was fined 500 euros (around $524) and banned from visiting the landmark for life.
