In a rare prime-time address, President Biden made a powerful appeal to the nation and Congress to take ‘immediate action on gun control.’

As the country reels from more mass shootings, the President spoke movingly about moving beyond thoughts and prayers.

“After Columbine, after Sandy Hook, after Charleston, after Orlando, after Las Vegas, after Parkland, nothing has been done,” Biden said, reeling off a litany of mass killings. “This time, that can’t be true. This time we must actually do something.”

In every other case, bills written after horrific mass shootings get stalled in the Senate when the GOP refuses to pass even a ‘red flag law.’

A realistic Biden said that if was politically impossible to ban assault weapons, Congress should at least raise the age when they can be legally purchased from 18 to 21.

And he spoke to the gun owners, who mistakenly believe that the Democrats want to take away their guns: “I respect the culture and the tradition and the concerns of lawful gun owners,” he said. “At the same time, the Second Amendment, like all other rights, is not absolute.”

But he added: “My God, the fact that the majority of the Senate Republicans don’t want any of these proposals even to be debated or come up for a vote, I find unconscionable.”
