Who Are the Best Teams in the MLS?
The 2022 MLS season has been super exciting! There have been lots of goals and a great mix of local and international talent. As we get closer to the playoffs, some teams have separated themselves from the pack and demonstrated they have a great chance of winning the league. To help you with your MLS game predictions we are going to rank the 4 best teams in the MLS. All of these teams have a chance of winning the competition.
1. Los Angeles FC
Los Angeles FC are the top soccer team in the whole of MLS. They are currently in 1st place in the Western Conference on 60 points and are 9 points clear of Austin, who are in 2nd place.
LA has some serious stars in the likes of former Real Madrid wonder kid Gareth Bale and Italian national legend Giorgio Chiellini who played over 400 games for Juventus. It will be extremely difficult for any team in the MLS to challenge LA in the playoffs. We expect them to cruise to the finals, where they will likely meet Philadelphia.
2. Philadelphia Union
Currently on equal points with Los Angeles and leading the Eastern Conference is Philadelphia. Philadelphia has had a strong 2022 season, racking up 17 wins, 9 draws, and just 4 losses.
The Union have the best defense in the league. They have an amazing goalkeeper and some extremely talented defensive backs. However, if they are going to make a deep run in the playoffs, they need to find some more reliable scoring options.
3. CF Montreal
In a tier below Philadelphia is CF Montreal. They are sitting in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference with 52 points. In 29 games, they have 16 wins, 4 draws, and 9 losses.
CF Montreal’s coach Wilfried Nancy has done an amazing job with the team. Nancy has got Montreal defending as a unit and moving the ball nicely in the attack. The only problem is they don’t have a reliable keeper, and their strikers have not been in the best form. They will find it difficult to beat the top teams in the playoffs.
4. Austin FC
Austin FC is in the same tier as CF Montreal. They are sitting in 2nd place in the Western Conference with 51 points. In 29 games, they have 15 wins, 6 draws, and 8 losses.
Austin has picked some real talent who have immediately made an impact in the 2022 season. Ruben Gabrielsen has sured up their defense, and Emiliano Rigoni has given them some dynamism on the wing. We expect them to make a deep run in the playoffs before ultimately being defeated by the LAFC.
