Over the weekend, the remaining portion of the Surfside condo building in Florida was demolished before tropical storm Elsa made landfall.

It is now two weeks since the original collapse of the building and Maggie Castro, a firefighter and paramedic with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue who briefs families daily, said  that “it is harder to see a miracle happening.”

But now that the building was strategically brought down, crews have been able to access previously inaccessible places, such as bedrooms where people were believed to be sleeping, leading to identifying more victims.

The death toll stands at 28 with 117 people still unaccounted for.
