Pop singer Robbie Williams’ biopic ‘Better Man’ got off to a bad start on its opening weekend, bringing in just $1 million in its opening weekend. (It reportedly cost $110 million to make.)
That may be in part because a CGI chimp plays Robbie’s role. (Reportedly, Williams’ choice.)
“Robbie Williams played by a digitally animated chimpanzee [is] an outlandish choice,” said David Gross of a movie consulting firm “For anyone complaining that the industry plays it too safe, this is your movie. The risk-taking is excellent, but $110 million is not realistic for the genre and for this musical artist. $25 million to $30 million would have made more sense.”
The film did better in the UK, where the ‘Angels’ singer Robbie Williams is well-known.
