The nominees for the 91st Academy Awards were revealed early Tuesday morning. A quick wrap up: “Roma,” a Netflix film and “The Favourite,” a period dramedy, tied for most nominations with ten each. Making history, “Black Panther” is the first superhero film to ever be nominated for best picture. Also nominated for best picture; “BlacKkKlansman,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Favourite,” “Green Book,” “Roma,” “A Star Is Born” and “Vice.”
Another tight race — the close best actress category. Lady Gaga is up against Glenn Close for her role in ‘The Wife.’ Yalitza Aparicio (“Roma”), Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”) and Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”) were also nominated for best actress.
But the real story this morning was who was snubbed. Widely expected to snag a Best Director nom, Bradley Cooper, was left out, though ‘A Star is Born’ received nods for Best Picture, Best Song, and Best Actress for Lady Gaga as well as a Best Actor for Cooper himself.
And where was John David Washington –BlacKkKlansman — nom for Best Actor? The movie did score Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor
Also missing, was Emily Blunt Best Actress Oscar nod for ‘Mary Poppins Returns.’
Many writers predicted that the Mister Rogers doc, ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor,’ was a shoo-in for best doc, but the film left empty-handed.W
Even without a host, the Oscars will carry on, airing live February 24 on ABC.
