If you looked closely at actress Natalie Portman on the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards, particularly at her Dior cape, you’d notice that it was delicately embroidered with the names of female directors who were snubbed by the awards ceremony.

When an eagle-eyed reporter asked her asked why she had the names of ‘Little Women’ director Greta Gerwig, ‘The Farewell’s’ Lulu Wang and others, sewn into her cape, Portman explained she wanted to honor the women in a ‘subtle’ way.

For the 87th time, The Best Director race was male-dominated in the Academy Awards.
