Best known as the guitarist and founder of the S.F. group The Band, Robbie Robertson has died at age 80 after a long illness.

‘Music From Big Pink’ with its hit singles ‘The Weight’ and the Dylan cover of ‘I Shall Be Released’ put the band on the map and they were later memorialized in Scorsese’s documentary The Last Waltz.

 

 

In recent years he worked on soundtracks for several  Scorsese films including The Wolf of Wall Street and the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon.
