Maui officials announced that the grim death toll has risen to 55 people but is expected to climb as cadaver dogs start searching the historic town of Lahaina.

Lahaina is “all gone,” according to the Maui County mayor. Residents described the wildfires as “it looked like it was raining fire.”

The only good news is that the fire is 80% contained.

An estimated 11,000 Maui residents are still without power while hundreds are displaced in shelters.

On Thursday, Biden issued a federal disaster declaration.
