After House Speaker Mike Johnson suggested that California Gov. Gavin Newsom should be “tarred and feathered” for his response to the anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, the ladies on ‘The View’ were appalled, along with most Americans.

On a segment called ‘Hot Topic ‘of the hit daytime talk show, Sara Haines accused Trump of wasteful spending by deploying the U.S. Marines and the National Guard to LA to stop the demonstrations, which began last Friday (June 6). According to Haines, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cut spending on cancer research and school lunches “and yet we’ll spend $136 million to deploy our military domestically without any coordination of the state government.”

Haines also pointed out that “tarring and feathering,” which is what Johnson said should be done to Newsom during a recent press conference, is “a medieval punishment and torture.”

Goldberg, however, sharply reminded Haines that it wasn’t that long ago that Black people in America were subjected to the same kind of violence.

“I’m sorry, that’s what they did to Black people all throughout the United States,” she said, before adding, “So, just an FYI to Mike Johnson, that is probably not the direction you want to go in right now.”
