Actress Jodie Turner-Smith has taken the role of  Anne Boleyn in the historical drama, making her the first black actress to play Henry VIII’s second wife.

While Boleyn is remembered for being beheaded — when she didn’t produce a male heir — her life was worth remembering say the writers, who say they aim to ‘challenge all the conventions of who we think Anne Boleyn was and shines a feminist light on her story.’

The series launches later this year.
