‘This election is not going to be business as usual. We all have a responsibility to protect our democracy,’ Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced today amind a raft of new policies to prevent election interference.

Besides banning all political advertisements the week before the election, the changes include voter information — you may have already seen that on some posts — the new rules will prevent any candidate claim victory BEFORE results are known.

Zuckerberg explained that if any ‘candidate or campaign tries to declare victory before the results are in, we’ll add a label to their post educating that official results are not yet in and directing people to the official results.

‘This will definitely apply to the president once this policy goes into place and it will apply to everyone equally,’ Zuckerberg told CBS ‘This Morning’

Facebook said it will also remove any posts that convey misinformation about COVID-19 and voting.

This comes after Facebook has been accused of not doing enough to stem misleading and false posts (most from the sitting President) that could potentially influence the election.
