We didn’t know this but no woman has served as an on-field coach during a baseball game.

That changed last night when the Giant’s regular coach was tossed over an altercation and Alyssa Nakken stepped in, her blonde braid bouncing behind her.

The crowd roared when she took the field and Nakken also received a congratulatory handshake from the Padre’s first baseman.

‘I think we’re all inspirations doing everything that we do on a day-to-day basis and I think, yes, this carries a little bit more weight because of the visibility, obviously there’s a historical nature to it,’ Nakken said. ‘But again, this is my job.’

A win for women everywhere.
