The U.S. State Department has confirmed that a man from New York died while vacationing in the Dominican Republic earlier this month, which brings the total to 1o Americans who have died in the Caribbean nation.

The family said he suddenly became ill and died last Monday. As in some of the other cases, authorities said he suffered “respiratory distress’ and ‘possibly died of a heart attack’ while on vacation.
Meanwhile, Dominican officials continue to insist that the number of deaths in recent months is ‘no greater than would be expected statistically in a country visited by more than 2 million Americans each year.’
