Trump called to congratulate the Men’s U.S. hockey team after their win over Canada in the Olympics on Sunday.

Team United States players celebrate after beating Canada 2-1 in overtime in the women’s ice hockey gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

After extending a personal invitation to visit the White House to the male athletes, Trump made a backhanded comment about the U.S. women’s hockey team, which also earned Olympic gold over Canada on Thursday, Feb. 19.

“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team,” he said as he began to laugh. “You do know that. I do believe I’d probably would be impeached [if the women’s team wasn’t invited].”

It’s worth noting that Trump never called the Women’s hockey team to congratulate them after taking the gold.

The Women’s Hockey team has very politely — but pointedly — declined Trump’s invite.
