Last night on his Truth Social account, Trump posted an AI video that shows the faces of the former president and first lady imposed on the bodies of apes, to the song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight.’
Even some Republicans were agast at the overt racism.
‘Trump just posted a video on Truth Social that includes a racist image of Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. There’s no bottom,’ wrote the account Republicans Against Trump on X.
‘Disgusting behavior by the President,’ wrote Governor Gavin Newsom’s office on X. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now.’
Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), the sole Black Republican member of the Senate, wrote on X that he was “praying” the video “was fake because it’s the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.”
“The President should remove it,” Scott, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, added.
