In a stunning move, a dozen Senate Republicans voted with Democrats against Trump’s emergency declaration, an effort by the President to cull money from other departments so he could build a wall along the Southern border. Defeated by 59-41, this can be seen as a serious rebuke of the Trump presidency. In response, Trump tweeted one word: ‘VETO.’
What happens next? Trump vetoes the measure and then the House and Senate would each have to muster the two-thirds majority to overturn it. In other words, SIX more Republicans would have to vote with the Dems.
