First, it was Canada. Trump joked that Canada should be the 51st state and referred to Prime Minister Trudeau as ‘Governor.’

Now, Trump is floating the idea of acquiring Greenland and the Panama Canal as US territory.

Saying the US needs ‘ownership and control of Greenland,’ Trump also said the US should ‘take back the Panama Canal because of its ‘ridiculous fees’ for American ships.

“Everything’s for sale for the right price,” one source close to the President-elect said.

“[Trump] is definitely not trolling,” said a different source. “[He] is signaling the serious [nature] and the gravity of what it means to have an ambitious America and what it means to have leadership on stage.’

Meanwhile, Greenland’s PM Mute Egede said in a statement Monday: “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom.’

This is not the first time Trump has tried this on for size.

In 2019, Trump openly talked about buying Greenland.

“We are open for business, but we’re not for sale,” wrote Greenland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a tweet soon after.
