The Conair Curl Secret automatic hair curler ($99.) promises picture-perfect curls that last – and it really delivers. I have straight, frizz-prone hair that typically doesn’t hold curls, but the Conair Curl Secret gave me bouncy beach waves that stuck around for more than 24 hours, even without using heaps of hairspray.

Unlike traditional curling irons, this one has an enclosed chamber, which means the hair is heated from all sides to create perfect, long-lasting curls that are frizz-free. The chamber also means the days of accidental curling iron burns are over. There is a learning curve, since you feed the hair into the chamber, rather than wrapping the wand, but after a few curls, I got the hang of it and the effort was well worth it.

The plates that touch your hair are made from Tourmaline, a semi-precious stone that produces six times more negative ions than ceramic. Negative ions close the cuticle layer to seal in natural moisture and create a smooth and silky hair surface – and curls that last!

With three different curl settings — defined, loose, or wavy — as well as the option to vary curl directions, and 5 different heat settings [from 300F to 410F] this curling iron is built for every hair type. It also takes any guesswork out of how long to leave your hair on the wand because it beeps when it’s time to release the curl. It’s been ten years since the original Curl Secret became a cult favorite and it’s safe to say this new and improved version will have just as much staying power as my new and improved curls.
