Remember the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota last month attended by fans from all over the U.S? Just a few weeks after, many participants came down with COVID and even worse, spread it to their communities.

In a new study, the cost to the public health system is estimated at $12.2 billion — and climbing. (They base that on the estimation that an average of $46,000 is spent on each patient who tests positive for COVID-19.)

As photos from the event showed, most people who attended the event did not take coronavirus precautions like wearing masks and social distancing.
