Over the weekend, at his first ‘official’ 2024 campaign rally in Waco, Texas, the former president kicked off the sparsely attended event by playing “Justice for All,” a song by the “J6 Choir,” a group of Jan. 6 defendants the former president collaborated with for the recording. Note: most of them are in jail. (Reportedly, it was recorded at Mar-a-Lago over a prison phone.)
On top of that, Trump played footage from the riot while Trump recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Some Republicans criticized Trump for paying tribute to Jan. 6 rioters during a weekend rally, saying mildly: “I don’t think it’s a recipe for success.”
At least Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who openly supports Trump, voiced a stronger opinion.
“There will be no effort on my part to whitewash Jan. 6,” said Graham. “I think the best thing for President Trump to do is to focus on the problems people are facing today. There’s no way you’re gonna convince the American people that Jan. 6 was anything less than a horrible day in America.”
