For anyone — everyone — who was wondering why L.A. Rams player Van Jefferson raced off the field after their Super Bowl win and missed the post-game celebration, he had a good reason.

Turns out, his wife was in labor! Samaria went into labor in the middle of the game and was rushed to a local hospital. She deliberately didn’t want hubby to know until he’d finished the game at which point he dashed off the field to get to the hospital.

Now they’re revealing that they’ve named their newborn baby ‘Champ’ …as in ‘Championship.’

The beaming  dad went on to share the inspiration behind the name, explaining: ‘Champ has a meaning of warrior, and I’m all about having meaning [in] a name, so I think that’s a perfect fitting for him.’

Van added that his wife is also ‘a warrior, too, to go through what she went through’ when she gave birth to their son.

‘Even coming to the game leaving at half time, so she has that warrior spirit, so we just thought it was fitting for him to have that same thing,’ he said.
