The US Preventive Services Task Force now recommends that ALL women at an average risk of breast cancer ( meaning it doesn’t run in your family or you have other factors) start screening at age 40 instead of 50.

This updates the 2016 rule, even though many groups — for example, the American Cancer Society, have already been recommending women start mammograms in their 40’s.

The draft recommendation is for all people assigned female at birth, including cisgender women, trans men and nonbinary people, who are at average risk for breast cancer.

With this recommendation, insurance companies will be pressured to pay for earlier, preventative screenings.
