Talk about celebrating International Women’s Day…
The head of NASA, Jim Bridenstine, has hinted that a woman is “likely to be” the first person on Mars
When asked on Twitter whether women will be included in the agency’s next trip to the moon, he replied ‘Absolutely!’
Not only that but, NASA announced its first all-female spacewalk at the end of the month when astronauts Anne McClain and Christina Koch will get to float around in space for about seven hours.
This follows the news that both McClain and Koch were part of the 2013 astronaut class, half of which were women.
Today, women comprise 34% of active NASA astronauts according to the agency. It was only in 1978 that NASA admitted six women to the NASA’s astronaut corps. For more on NASA’s Mars plans, check out the NASA page.
