Dr. Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, has warned that Thanksgiving could cause a rise in COVID cases as people travel, meet with relatives they haven’t seen in months and gather inside for the feast.

The good doctor recommended limiting the number of people attending Thanksgiving and try to keep it to your own household.

“You may have to bite the bullet and sacrifice that social gathering unless you’re pretty certain that the people that you’re dealing with are not infected,” he said.

Given that COVID-19 cases are surging in 37 states, Fauci said that “what we really have to do is double down” during the cooler weather on preventive measures like social distancing, wearing masks and washing hands.’

And Fauci is leading by example: His children, who live in three different states, have decided to stay away this year amid the pandemic.

“They themselves, because of their concern for me and my age, have decided they’re not going to come home for Thanksgiving — even though all three of them want very much to come home for Thanksgiving,” he said.
