In an attempt to defend the unpopular Iran war, VP Vance told a conservative audience at the University of Georgia that the pope was wrong to say that disciples of Christ are “never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs.”

As we all know by now, Trump pushed back against the Pope in a social media post that called the first American-born pontiff “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.”

Vance — a Catholic — took a different tack, suggesting that Pope Leo should be ‘careful’ when talking about religion, which caused some heckling from the audience.

Later, in a FOX interview, Vance went further, stating that ‘It would be best for the Vatican to stick to matters of morality, to stick to matters of what’s going on in the Catholic church and let the president of the United States stick to dictating American public policy.”

The backlash has already started:

Our VP lectured the Pope on morality and theology?
