On Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom mandated that all school teachers and staff must have proof of vaccination or face weekly testing.

This makes California the first State to make such a move but hopefully, other states will follow suit.

As Randi Weingarten, the head of the powerful American Federation of Teachers, put it:

“It’s not a new thing to have immunizations in schools,” Ms. Weingarten said on the NBC program “Meet the Press.” “And I think that on a personal matter, as a matter of personal conscience, I think that we need to be working with our employers, not opposing them, on vaccine mandates.”

This comes as haspotilizations from the Delta variant are on the rise, and mask restrictions have been put in place. Surveys have shown that about 90% of Californian teachers have already been inoculated.
