Polar vortex, arctic blast and now snow bomb? As scary as it sounds, ‘bombogenesis’ just means that high winds draw colder air from the North, but the chill it brings with it can be dangerous. Schools across the affected region are closed, 2,700 flights have been canceled and people are warned to stay inside. At least 17 people have died in this latest extreme weather.

The ‘bomb’ is expected to bring blizzard-like conditions and winds of up to 60 mph to Boston, Long Island and Maine and eight inches of snow to New York City where wind chill temperatures plunge to minus 20 on Friday.
