The U.K. sounded the alarm first. Now the US and Canada also say Russian hackers are attempting to steal coronavirus vaccine research from medical organizations and universities.

Paul Chichester, director of operations at Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre, said the government-backed hackers launched “despicable attacks against those doing vital work to combat the coronavirus pandemic.”

This is a global pandemic so why would Russia try and steal vaccine research? Apparently, so that Moscow would have the life-saving vaccine first.

The US Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity agency warned as early as April that cybercriminals and other groups were targeting COVID-19 research, and now medical research organizations, pharmaceutical companies, academia, are taking extra security precautions.
