After two months of COVID lockdown, the dam was finally opened in Shanghai. People raced to the shops and to the train stations, worried that the city could shut down again.
Residents much show a green ‘health code’ on their phones to be able to leave their homes and enter most places, but due to the ‘Zero Covid’ policy, those who test positive for the virus are removed to a quarantine area.
“This is a day that we dreamed of for a very long time,” Shanghai government spokeswoman Yin Xin told reporters.
“Everyone has sacrificed a lot. This day has been hard-won and we need to cherish and protect it, and welcome back the Shanghai we are familiar with and missed.”
